Chinese Tea Master Shen personally hand-picks his tea leaves from specialty tea farms in the Yunnan Province of China and ships them directly to some of the finest tea connoisseurs in the world. Though his tea import and export business from China to Taiwan is mainly through word of mouth, his teas are ten times better in both aftertaste and health effects than the best tea brands you can buy in America. With a small tea shop hidden away up two flights of stairs in an old building near Taipei’s Gu-Ting MRT Station, Tea Master Shen teaches the Ancient Art of Chinese Tea to clients young and old, rich or poor, with no discrimination. Using a spoon made from bamboo, he carefully parcels out tea leaves and pours freshly boiled distilled water into delicate, tiny white porcelain tea cups. He takes a tea cup and holds it under his nose to check the tea scent and then tweaks the soaking time until he reaches the perfect balance of purity and taste.
At one end of his little shop is a small and simple wooden altar with a black and white photo of his late spiritual master. Master Shen has given up a career in the Chinese corporate business world, with its smoking, drinking and gambling, to pursue Tibetan Buddhism, and his spiritual practices are embodied in his teas - from the way he selects his teas to the way he courts clients around the world. At the other end of the room is a wide cherry wood cabinet with rows upon rows of freshly paper wrapped circular tea packs and scores of porcelain jars housing all kinds of tea - from black, green, red and white teas to pu-erh, oolong, medicinal teas and more.
